Restore an earlier version of your website

Before you start

• A restore replaces your draft — what you see in the editor. Your live website doesn’t change until you publish.
• The current draft is saved as a version before any restore, so you can undo a restore by restoring that version.

Steps

1. Open Website Builder and select Settings at the bottom of the left bar.
2. Select Version History. You see Version History & Saving and a table of versions, newest first.
3. Find the version you want by its Date/Time and Source.
4. Select Restore on that row.
5. In Restore this version?, select Restore version.
6. The editor reloads with that version and shows Version restored. Check it, then publish if you want it live.

What the table shows

• Date/Time — when the version was saved.
• Source — what made it: Manual Save, Autosave, Publish, AI Generate or Restore. Some show a technical name, such as the safety copy taken before a restore.
• Pages and Size — how many pages it has and how big it is.

A Publish row holds exactly what you published at that time. A Manual Save or Autosave row holds your site as it was just before that save.

How long versions are kept

Your 40 most recent versions are always kept. Older ones are thinned out to the first version of each day for the last 30 days. Anything older is deleted.

Autosave adds a version at most every 90 seconds while you edit.

Good to know

• A restore brings back your pages, sections and design, plus your contact, social and advanced settings.
• It doesn’t change blog posts, media library files, languages or your domain.
• It doesn’t touch clients, appointments or anything else in your practice.
• Save now at the top saves your current draft straight away.

Troubleshooting

I restored a version but my live website hasn’t changed. That’s expected. Restore changes your draft only. Publish to put it live.

I restored the wrong version. Find the version from just before your restore in the list, and restore that.

The version I want isn’t there. It may have been removed under the rules above. Versions older than 30 days are deleted once you have more than 40.
